Glass Impact test
Applied Situation:
Glass acts as a safeguard that is accessible and that acts as a fire enclosure only, and either its surface area > 0.1m2 or its major dimension > 450mm

Glass Fixation test

PCB traces as fault protection
Applied Situation:
the opening of a conductor on a printed board is used as a safeguard
for B.4 tests
IEC62368-1(2.0) – 6.4.3.2:
Only mention this protection method in 6.4.3.2 for Fire Protection
without same details as described in IEC62368-1(3.0) B.4.8 . No
mention if PCB trace can be used as B.4 safeguard.
IEC62368-1(3.0) – B.4.8:
the opening of a conductor on a printed board is allowed be used as a
safeguard for B.4 tests, provided following conditions are met:
1) Repeat total 3 times,
2) Conductors of a printed board of V-1 class material or VTM-1 class material
may open under overload condition provided that the open circuit is not an
arcing PIS. Conductors on a printed board material that has no material
flammability class or is classed lower than V-1 class material shall not open.
3) Under a single fault condition, the peeling of conductors on a printed board
shall not result in the failure of any supplementary safeguard or reinforced
safeguard.



Secondary Lithium Battery Fire Enclosure
Applied Situation:
Under what condition the Fire Enclosure is not required for
secondary lithium battery
IEC62368-1(2.0) – M.4.3:

Battery cell’s output is PS1



Wearable devices touch temp limit
Applied Situation:
Wearable lightweight devices such as watches, headsets,
personal music players and sports monitoring equipment
IEC62368-1(2.0) – Table 38:
Touch limit is 48Deg.C no matter how long it touches human
body.
IEC62368-1(3.0) – Table 38:
A new row is added specially for this kind of devices.
Limits vary from 48Deg.C to 43Deg.C.
Linear calculation, and round down to the nearest whole
number:
• 48Deg.C for touch time 1 minute
• 43Deg.C for touch time >=8 hours
• For example, if touch time is 3 hours then limit is 46Deg.C

Single Screw/Stud for PE and PB
Applied Situation:
Under what conditions a single Screw/Stud may be used to
secure both Protective Earthing conductor and Protective
Bonding conductor?
IEC62368-1(2.0) – 5.6.2.1:
There is no such conditions defined.
IEC62368-1(3.0) – 5.6.2.1:
The protective earthing conductor shall be separated by a nut
from that of the protective bonding conductor. The protective
earthing conductor shall be on the bottom of the stack, so that
it is the last connection disturbed.



Flammability requirements
Comparing with edition 2.0, edition 3.0 give more
alternatives to meet flammability requirements:
1) Small parts which can be exempt: <4g, or <1750mm3
2) 550Deg.C Glow Wire test as alternative for HB
3) UL2556 VW-1 as alternative for wire insulation flammability
4) 6.4.6 V-1 adds alternative to meet annex S.1



Forced airflow
Applied Situation:
For requirements of separation from PIS and Fire enclosure
openings

Equipment with multiple supply connections
Applied Situation:
For equipment with multiple supply connections and the
multiple mains supplies are identical, is it OK to mark the rated
input Voltage and Current/Power on one supply connection?
IEC62368-1(2.0) – F.3.3.7:
No
IEC62368-1(3.0) – F.3.3.7:
Where the multiple mains supplies are identical, they may
have one marking indicating the number of supplies.
EXAMPLE “240 V / 10 A × N” where N is the number of
identical mains supply connections.



DC power output marking
Applied Situation:
Shall the polarity of DC power output always be marked?
IEC62368-1(2.0) – F.3.8:
Yes
IEC62368-1(3.0) – F.3.8:
No, Polarity marking is not required when the pin configuration
prevents reversed polarity.



Full Insulated Winding wire (FIW)
Applied Situation:
Under what conditions could the Full Insulated Winding wire
(FIW, also called zero-defect enamelled wire) be treated to
have basic or reinforced insulation?
IEC62368-1(2.0) – N/A:
No such conditions are defined
